DERMS

This panel will discuss a roadmap for large-scale customer battery programs (VPP’s) through the lens of three industries; a utility, solar installer, and battery manufacturer. The panelists will share the successes and lessons learned of the award-winning WattSmart Battery Program, which currently has over 3,300 participants providing ≈ 41MWh and 20MW of firm dispatchable capacity under RMP control with a forecast to double in size by the end of 2024. Learn how the Wattsmart Battery program currently controls 13 battery models by 4 different manufacturers through a Battery Grid Management System (BGMS) that is directly integrated into the utilities Energy Management System (EMS). Functionality includes providing automated real-time generation level frequency response (within 45 seconds), spinning reserves (within 10 minutes), daily peak/off-peak load cycling, and backup power for the customer. Other topics will include the customer experience, regulatory considerations, battery technology, and battery installer opportunities.
