Dominion is facing rapid growth. Here's how they plan long-term
Dominion Energy is facing considerable growth across its operating territory – much of it stemming from non-conforming load produced by the technology and EV sector. The need for improved forecasting is becoming a mandatory part of our operations and company decision making. In this session, we will discuss strategies and tactics around long-term load forecasts (LTLF) for area, substation and transformer-level forecasting, including the development of an operating framework which includes automated data collection from multiple data sources, model building, and reconciliation for grouped time series. We will also explore challenges related to data inconsistency and continuous changes in network topology.
Our long-term goal is to develop an explainable and flexible long-term load forecast with transparent and scenario-based inputs so that SOC (Systems Operations Center) and strategic planning team can make informed decisions and plan for future upgrades, line reconductoring, and schedule outages all with the goal of scaling our system both reliably and sustainably for the future.
