The National Incident  Management (NIMS) provides stakeholders across the whole emergency response community with the shared vocabulary, systems and processes to successfully deliver the capabilities as defined by FEMA as part of the National Preparedness System. NIMS defines operational systems that guide how personnel work together during incidents.

This course covers an introduction to the common terminology, processes and approaches to responding to emergency incidents of any kind. NIMS can be applied to all hazards types including wildfires, hurricanes, ice/winter storms, tornados, active shooters, public safety power shut-off’s (PSPS), and more. NIMS can be used by utilities for small to large incidents and enables utilities to work with first responders, communities and other stakeholders that are responding to an incident.

Topics covered in the course include public information communications, mutual aid processes, emergency operations center best practices, technology trends, emerging processes, how to establish a common operating picture and a case study on lessons learned from a utility on their journey adopting an all-hazards Incident Command System that leverages NIMS processes.
