Ahmad Ababneh

Vice President, Transmission and Substation Operations, PG&E
Ahmad has more than 25 years of experience in multiple industries with a focus in the energy and utility sectors. Ahmad is currently serving as the Vice President of Transmission and Substation Operations at Pacific Gas and Electric. In this role, Ahmad is responsible for the maintenance and construction of the Electric Transmission system, Project and Construction, Generation Interconnections, Work and Resource Management, Compliance and Temporary Generation departments. In addition, Ahmad oversees our transmission policy and interfaces with key state and federal regulators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our electric transmission system across short- and long-term planning horizons.  Since joining PG&E in 2014, Ahmad has worked in various operations and engineering roles. Most recently, he served as the Vice President of Electric Operations Major Projects and Constuction where he was responsible for all aspects of project’s design and construction for wildfire and grid resiliency programs, undergrounding, system inspections, renewables, contract management and vegetation management functions for T&D. Prior to this role, he was Senior Director of Electric Asset Management responsible for all aspects of the electric asset strategy and investment plans and led the implementation of key Smart Grid and technology programs. In addition, Ahmad led a cross-functional team of experienced professionals to develop the strategy and roadmap for the electric grid and business model of the future at PG&E. Prior to joining PG&E, Ahmad served as the director of Engineering and Technical Services for Florida Power and Light (FPL). During his 10 years with FPL, Ahmad held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility in FPL's power delivery, quality and technology, IT and electric operations departments. He worked to identify innovative and effective engineering solutions that helped continuously improve FPL’s system reliability, reduce operating cost and increase customer satisfaction. Earlier in his career, Ahmad served in variance IT, engineering, consulting and leadership roles for Fortune 500 companies at Entergy, an integrated energy company; Schlumberger, world’s biggest oilfield services company; and GE.  Ahmad holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Jordan University of Science and Technology, a Master of Electrical Engineering degree from the University of New Orleans and a Master of Business Administration degree from Palm Beach Atlantic University. Ahmad is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt.
