Haile Gashaw has been working his entire professional career in the power industry. He joined Georgia Power Company in 2001 and has been working in the areas of Transmission Protection and Control, Distribution Reliability, and DER Interconnection and Commissioning (Witness Testing). He has been involved in crafting DER interconnection and test policies, protection settings philosophies, protection and control standards, DER Witness Testing procedures.  

Haile had been part of the group that drafted IEEE 1547-2018 and IEEE 1547.1-2020 standards that govern interconnection and testing of DERs as a sub-working group co-facilitator. He has also been a member of IEEE P1547.2, IEEE P1547.3, and IEEE 1547.9 working groups. During his time in Transmission, he had also been part of various IEEE PSRC working groups. He is currently serving as a sub-group co-facilitator in the revision of IEEE 1547-2018.

Currently he is working as a Principal Engineer in the Power Delivery Distribution Standards and Reliability organization at Georgia Power Company with responsibilities for system protection coordination, witness testing and integration of distributed energy resources (DER) to GPC’s distribution system.

Haile obtained his BSEE from Addis Ababa University and graduate diploma from Schmalkalden University of Applied Science, Germany.  

Haile is a registered Professional Engineer and a senior IEEE member.
