Matthew Mills is a Technical Program Manager on Portland General Electric's (PGE) Smart Grid Test Bed, an innovative team tasked with studying the viability of various flexible load resources available to the utility. Matthew oversees the Test Bed V2X Demonstration, an exploration in bidirectional EV charging to establish its value to the utility and to better understand its viability in distribution system optimization and management. Additionally, Matthew oversees multiple other studies exploring the distribution system benefits available via pretty much any other technology that is installed but not yet leveraged to its fullest extent by the utility (e.g., EV charge management, smart inverters, energy storage, heat pump water heaters, smart thermostats, and more).  Located in Portland, Oregon, Matthew holds a B.S. in Environmental Science from UC Santa Barbara, and has recently completed his M.S. in Civil Engineering: Energy Infrastructure from University of Washington.
