Michael D. Simms has a BSEE from Northern Kentucky University and is a registered professional engineer in the state of Ohio. Mike is currently the manager of Grid Management, Midwest, at Duke Energy and has over 40 years of experience in the electric power industry in the areas of power system engineering, control and protection, power quality, metering, distribution system planning and grid management. Mike is an IEEE PES Senior Member and chair of the IEEE PES T&D committee, Distribution subcommittee volt var control working group. He was a contributor to IEEE P1854 Smart distribution applications guide and participated in the IEEE 1453 Voltage Flicker Standard.  He is also technical advisor to NEETRAC and EPRI. He received the 2018 IEEE PES Doug Staszesky Distribution Automation award. He contributed to a book “Smart Grid Advanced Technologies and Solutions” Second Edition, Stuart Borlase, Dec 1, 2017
